Because they are happy living like the rich person rather than being the rich person.

Logically, a middle-class person has to live on a tight budget and save money (sometimes for decades) to afford these— 55 inch smart TV, smartphone, house, car, grand wedding or a foreign vacation. He has to reluctantly wait for his dream life to come true.

But this affects the sales of many companies. They can’t wait that long for a middle class person to become rich to buy a gadget. They want to sell him three gadgets in the meantime.

This is where Equated Monthly Installment (EMIs)/ Buy Now Pay Later came in.

Earlier, people used them for houses and vehicles. Now, you find them use it for iPhones, travel, engagement rings, hall, catering and entire wedding event, honeymoon trips etc. Added to this, there are credit cards that allow you to take quick personal loans at very high interests without having to depend on anyone.

All this combined bought and brought one massive change in the lives of middle-class people.

It is in their lifestyle.

Compared to fifty years, today, a middle-class person can have the same lifestyle as a rich person. Be it holidays or house or vehicle or gadgets or wedding. It makes them live their dream life quicker.

While it comes at a heavy cost, some know it and still go for it, survive it and come out safe, some don’t know and grab the downward spiral and stay there for lifetime.

So why should a middle class person restrain himself, starve and stay hungry to save every penny, become rich and then enjoy his life after two or three decades, when he can enjoy as a rich person all his life despite staying middle class?
